The Palace of Westminster, the parliament place since 1547, is the meeting place of the House of Commons and The House of the Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.The Palace is near the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in central London. It was built during the 11th Century. It almost burnt down in 1834 so the biggest part of the building was rebuilt during the 19th Century. Today a lot of people visit the Palace of Westminster.

What about King Kamehameha the Great Statue?

Its location

It is situated in Honolulu in Hawaii in the United States, located in front of the Aliiolani Hall.

Its description

Although the King Kamehameha the Great Statue isn’t an exact representation of how Kamehameha looks, the sculptor gave him Roman-like facial features instead of Polynesian the statue remains one of Oahu’s most popular things to see. At 8 1/2 feet tall, King Kamehameha is holding a spear in his left hand to represent the kingdomwhich he protects. His right hand is extended as a warm gesture of aloha, and it is one of many sacred structures located in historic Downtown Honolulu. Nearby is the Iolani Palace and Kawaiahao Church, so if you go there you should spend some time walking around the area!

Its history

In 1878 Walter M. Gibson, a member of the Hawaiian government, wanted to commemorate the 100 year arrival of Captain Cook in the Hawaiian Islands. Gibson commissioned a Boston sculptor, Thomas R. Gould, who was living in Italy at the time. In 1880, the initial sculpture was sent to Paris, France to be cast in bronze. In 1883 during the transit to Hawaii, the cargo ship wrecked and the statue was lost near the Falkland Islands. A replica was immediately created, but the original was recovered, so Hawaii has two statues! 

June 11 is Kamehameha Day, a state holiday. Among the festivities is a late-afternoon lei-draping ceremony, where the Kamehameha statue is splendidly adorned with fresh flower leis of all types. Fragrant strands of yellow and pink plumeria are placed on the statue’s outstretched right arm. Garlands of royal ilima are hung around its neck. Signifying power and strength, a special lei made from braided ti leaves adorns the king’s spear.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is situated in the plain of Salisbury in the South-West of England. It is a very tall and strange monument.It is located in the earldom of Wiltshire, thirtheen kilometres to the north of Salisbury and four kilometres west of Amesbury.

Stonehenge means "suspended stones", they were erected in 2800 and 1100 before J.-C.

This is a very impressive place which is registered on the list of UNESCO's international sites.

The monument consists of enormous stones laid out in concentric circles.

Big Ben

Big Ben is the name of the big bell,at the north end of the palace of Westminster in London.

Big Ben weighs 13.5 tons, it was made on the 10 of April 1858.

The tower is 96m high.

The mechanism of the bell weighs 5 tons, the hammer weighs 200kg.

it may have been named after Sir Benjamin Hall, who oversaw the installation of the Great Bell.
